Who is invited to an Honors MVD?

If you have submitted information to WVU and meet one of the requirements to qualify for the University Honors College, you will be invited to attend our WVU Honors MVD. These requirements include an ACT composite score of 28, SAT combined score of 1240, and a minimum GPA of 3.8. Test scores exclude the writing component.

Can high school juniors/sophomores come to high school senior visitation days and visa versa?

Dates are specifically designed for high school seniors or a sophomore/junior. However, you may attend any date that meets your individual schedule.

What does the MVD fee cover?

To guarantee your attendance at a Mountaineer Visitation Day, we charge a nominal fee of $10 per student and $5 per guest. Although this fee does not cover the entire cost of our program, it does go towards your lunch, program materials, and staff costs. Students also receive a stylish WVU t-shirt. This cost is non-refundable, but can be transfered to another MVD.

What should I bring?

Because MVDs are rain or shine events, we do recommend that you bring an umbrella. You will spend most of the day in air-conditioned or heated buildings; therefore, you may want to dress in layers. If you would like to do so, you can turn in your application for admission to be reviewed. Be sure to bring all of your MVD confirmation materials and WVU questions with you for the day.

What university representatives will be present at the event?

For our MVDs, we invite representatives from all of our colleges and schools and from many of our student support services. We usually have representatives from the following academic departments: Davis College of Agricultural, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences, College of Business and Economics, College of Creative Arts, College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, College of Law, P.I. Reed School of Journalism, School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, Education Teacher Program, Speech Pathology and Audiology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Occupational Therapy and Exercise Physiology.

We also usually have representatives from the following student support services: Admissions and Records, University Police Department, Study Abroad, Technology Support Center, University Honors College, University Housing, Career Services Center, WVU Marching Band, Mountaineer Parents Club, Army ROTC, and Air Force ROTC.

How long does the program last?

The MVD programs last all day. The program typically begins at 8:15 a.m. and lasts until 2:00 p.m. However, there are some optional activities that you can participate in after 2:00 p.m. such as touring the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences, College of Creative Arts, and the P. I. Reed School of Journalism.

Will I get to see the residence halls?

We do show participants a sample residence hall room located in the Evansdale Residential Complex, which is indicative of all WVU residence hall rooms. In addition, we will point out most of our residence halls to participants during our campus tours. Finally, most participants will eat lunch in a University residence hall or other dining facility located on the downtown campus.

Do you provide excuse letters?

Yes. Each participant will receive an official excuse letter in their folder of materials for the Mountaineer Visitation Day. Our staff will also be happy to sign any additional forms to verify that you attended our program. Only students that attend the program will receive verification.

Why are MVDs during the week?

MVDs are typically held during the week so that participants can get a feel for what the University is like while students are on-campus. In addition most schools do allow students a specific number of excused absences to visit college campuses. We provide an excuse letter to all of our participants.

What happens if there is bad weather?

MVDs are rain or shine events. Therefore, we encourage participants to dress in layers and bring an umbrella. During the winter time, West Virginia can get a few snow storms. However, we do not cancel the MVD unless the University has canceled classes for that day. To check the status of the MVD, please call 304-293-2264.

You may also tune to local radio stations 101.9 WVAQ, 100.1 WCLG, or 1440AM WAJR. You can check our website at www.wvu.edu to see if WVU is closed. If the weather prevents you from attending, we would be happy to reschedule you to another visitation date. You can call us at 304-293-2264 or e-mail us at mountaineervisitationdays@mail.wvu.edu to reschedule.

Will we receive refunds if we cancel or change our MVD?

Fees are non-refundable, but can be transferred to another Mountaineer Visitation Day if space is available.

What happens if I can’t attend my MVD session?

If you are unable to attend your selected MVD, please let us know so that we can transfer you to another available date. You can call us at 304-293-2264 or e-mail us at mountaineervisitationdays@mail.wvu.edu.
